Colleen M. Schaffner, PhD., School of Humanities and Social Sciences director and Department of Psychology chair, co-authored a paper with Sandra E. Smith-Aguilar, Filippo Aureli, Luara Busia, and Garbriel Ramos-Fern谩ndez. The paper received the Primates 2022 Most-Cited Paper Award. Matthew Valverde, D.M.A., associate professor of music and Cornerstone to Capstone聽Title V Grant project director; and Melinda Leoce, M.M., assistant professor of music; were selected to teach at the prestigious Interlochen Arts Camp in Interlochen, Michigan. They taught during the first three-week session (June 25 until July 16), giving lessons and masterclasses to the students and helping them prepare their solo and ensemble repertoire for performances during the camp and beyond. Valverde also taught two introductory courses for the high school vocal students: 1) Lyric Diction and 2) Latin-American Art Song Repertoire.
In May, Valverde traveled to the Twin Cities, Minnesota, to perform in the CD Release concert with Border CrosSing Ensemble (Ahmed Anzald煤a, conductor). 聽It was the official launch of their new album, Un milagro de fe听(A Miracle of Faith), released on .
In June 2022, Valverde reprised a role in聽Tienda, a chamber opera by Vincent/Moya which聽premiered in the Twin Cities on May 2019, during the Virginia Arts Festival鈥檚 John Duffy Institute for New Opera. They spent a week preparing music and staging for one scene, which was professionally recorded at the end the engagement.
