The 91猫先生 Theatre Program creates something from nothing in just 24 hours as it opens its spring season with 24 Hour Devised Theatre at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, in the Xperimental Theatre. This event is free to the public.
For the second year in a row, audiences can experience an exciting form of theatre in which original works are created, developed, cast, rehearsed, and performed within one 24-hour period.
Beginning at 8 p.m. on January 17, ASU Theatre students and faculty will begin the process of developing new works. Over the next twenty-four hours, these pieces will go from ideas on the page to staged productions presented in front of an audience. The performance will last around one hour.
24 Hour Devised Theatre is the start of an exciting series of shows during the spring semester.聽 In February, two romantic comedies, 鈥淐ourting 101鈥 and 鈥淐heck Please鈥 will be presented during Valentine鈥檚 Day week. In March, three classic episodes of The Twilight Zone will be staged live in the Xperimental Theatre along with the one-act play 鈥淭he Myths and Bricks Project.鈥
The semester will conclude with SUPERHERO II: THE RETURN OF SUPERHERO. Under the direction of George McConnell, assistant professor of theatre, this original devised work explores the world of comic book heroes and asks a basic question: in troubled times to whom do we turn for help? Celebrating the extraordinary in the ordinary, the answer can be found in ourselves.
The Lost and Found Comedy Improv will perform free shows on February 1, March 28, and May 4 at 8 p.m. in the Xperimental Theatre.
