David Bertolatus, Ph.D., assistant professor of biology, co-authored a U.S. Geological Survey data release that was recently published. This publication contains the聽results of research investigating the occurrence聽and biological聽impacts of exposure to complex mixtures of PFAS chemicals. Exposure to these “forever chemicals” can have negative impacts on humans and wildlife. U.S.G.S. data releases are part of the open-data movement and they make publicly-funded research free and open to everyone. Visit聽 for the publication and full citation.

Sociology Professors Stephanie Hilwig, Ph.D., Heidi Schneider, Ph.D., Michael Stewart, Ph.D., and Billy Ulibarri, Ph.D., traveled to Fort Lewis College with sociology students to attend the 14聽Annual Sociology Undergraduate Research Conference in Durango, Colo.. Student presentations included:聽鈥淢ass Shootings: Does Mental Illness or the Use of Assault Weapons Impact Lethality More?鈥澛by Cole Gilleland; 鈥An Invisible Identity: The Lack of Representation and Misrepresentation of Pacific Islanders in the U.S Diaspora,鈥听产测 File 鈥淗ame鈥 Vea;听鈥淓xperiences of International Student-Athletes at Adams State,鈥听产测 Acxel Perez; and聽鈥淗ow does one鈥檚 upbringing affect the way relationships are made and maintained?鈥澛by Noelani Rael. Adams State will host the 15聽Annual Sociology Undergraduate Research Conference in 2025.
Dr. Schneider, inclusive excellence liaison, was accepted to participate in the Employer Based Child Care Design Lab through Executives Partnering to Invest in Children (EPIC) and Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC). Dr. Schneider is participating in bi-monthly meetings for four months, an onsite visit to Denver employer based childcare facilities and training in April, and meetings with technical assistants and experts to explore sustainable, quality, and affordable models for employer-based child care opportunities for Adams State.

Tracey Robinson, Ph.D., professor of kinesiology, and Kris Mugrage, lecturer of kinesiology, accompanied ten students (8 undergraduate and 2 graduate) to the Rocky Mountain American College of Sports Medicine conference in Colorado Springs in April.
As an RMACSM Board member, Dr. Robinson helped organize the conference, and judge student posters. She was re-elected to the Board for another term.

Alexandria Miles and Abigail Adiong, both master’s students in exercise science, presented posters highlighting research from the ongoing Larry Holder Exercise and Cancer Survivorship program. Six of the undergraduate students in the kinesiology department took part in the Student Bowl (2 teams of 3 students each) and represented Adams State well.
