In July, Dr. David Bertolatus, Ph.D., assistant professor of biology, was invited to participate in an expert panel at a meeting on PFAS chemicals hosted by the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (DOD), in Long Beach, CA. As part of the panel, Dr. Bertolatus shared his research on the effects of exposure to these “forever chemicals” and discussed strategies for applying this research to minimize the impacts of these chemicals on humans and wildlife.

On August 8, 20204,聽Curtis Garcia, Ph.D., School of Education professor and director聽facilitated聽a聽panel聽on Teacher聽Mentoring as part of聽the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute for Educational Sciences’ Regional Education Lab (REL) Central聽multi-state gathering held in Denver. State education leaders from Colorado, South Dakota and Missouri聽shared how recent legislation聽and innovations in their states have transformed teacher mentoring programs to focus on supporting and retaining teachers, particularly as they begin their careers as educators. Dr. Garcia serves as Chair of the Governing board for聽REL聽Central, which is responsible for guiding the聽REL’s activities in applied research聽applied research and development; training, coaching,聽technical support; and dissemination聽across聽the states of Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.
