The community is invited to celebrate the 91猫先生 Men鈥檚 and Women鈥檚 T&F and Cross Country programs. Bringing home the second consecutive Women鈥檚 Indoor Track & Field Division II National Championship, the programs have now won 60 team national championships. A reception will be held from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2024, in the Richardson Hall front lobby.
At the heart of the success is Head Coach Damon Martin, who brought home his 42 national team championship title.
No other college or university in the country, at any level, can boast of such a legacy of excellence. Adams State has been doing our state, and the San Luis Valley, proud since 1971 when men鈥檚 cross country team won the first national championship. The Adams State programs have a history of harnessing potential in athletes overlooked by larger programs, building on the University鈥檚 mission of serving as an engine of opportunity.
Coach Martin first accepted the position as women鈥檚 cross country and track and field programs 35 years ago and accepted the same position for the men鈥檚 running program in 1996.
Coach Martin developed the successful program first established by the legendary Coach Joe I. Vigil, Ph.D., who took over as track-and-field coach in 1965 and established the cross-country program a year later.
