The weekend of February 28, the Music Department hosted the 80th Annual Top of the Nation Honor Band. 鈥淭he event is truly student-centered and was a fabulous weekend of music-making, learning, and fellowship,鈥 said James Lind, D.M.A., assistant professor of music and director of wind bands.

The 80th annual festival focused on a range of opportunities for rehearsals guided by expert clinicians, masterclasses with Adams State music faculty, and special concerts including the first ever 鈥Been There, Done That,鈥 Director Band.聽鈥淭he highlight this year, though, was having the World-Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra perform during the festival,鈥 Dr. Lind added. Current music students and festival participants joined the band for a performance of聽鈥In the Mood.鈥
In addition to this performance, participants worked with world class clinicians including Dr. Shannon Kitelinger, D.M.A., San Diego State University director of bands and professor of music; and Mike Mozingo, retired music educator in the Lewis-Palmer School District. Feedback included 鈥淭his was the best honor band this year.鈥
The entire Music Department assisted with the success of the festival, including Assistant Professors of Music Brooke Miller, D.M.A.; Melinda Leoce, D.M., and Anna Hawkins, D.M.A.; Music Department Co-chairs Beth Robison, D.M.A. and Matthew Schildt, Ph.D., and Kara Van Gieson, administrative assistant. 鈥淚 also appreciate all the music students who contributed to the smooth operation of the festival.聽Adams State is a special place because of the students, faculty, and staff,鈥 Lind added.
