The Adams State Board of Trustees encouraged Colorado Gov. Jared Polis to consider Adams State鈥檚 designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution in his next appointment to the ASU Board of Trustees.
The governor will fill a vacancy on the board following the resignation of Trustee Kathy Rogers. She stepped down from the Adams State governing board in July.
The Trustees held a special meeting on Wednesday to discuss sending a letter to the governor that expresses their interest in having an opportunity to consult with Polis on potential appointees. The board approved sending the letter to Polis.
鈥淭he Board always desires a wide diversity of voices and experiences to be represented on the Board,鈥 the letter to Polis states. 鈥淭he Board also feels strongly that the University鈥檚 Trustees should reflect both the student body and San Luis Valley community, which it serves. The Board鈥檚 concern has been echoed by faculty and staff, who have expressed similar concerns with only one Hispanic member on the board.鈥
